The Maxime Socks... this is a great yarn -- Filatura di Crosa Maxime Print. It knits up nicely, the colors are bright and true, and it washes and wears beautifully. I'll keep my eye peeled for more of this stuff!
But the purple striped socks for the Emperor... oh, these were great to knit. The yarn is Berocco Sox, and these went really quickly, which was good as I was knitting under a deadline, which I rarely do. I only have one photographed, as the second one was finished right before midnight on Christmas Eve and went immediately under the tree. The Emperor was thrilled, as I had hoped he'd be. They're purpley enough for him.

I have some more things to show, but don't want to tempt the blog fates (they've already tried to kick me out once this session) but will leave you with one of the (very small number of) shots I took in New York City about a week ago. This was taken from Central Park, looking south toward mid-town Manhattan. My hotel was just a couple of blocks away from this spot, close to everything and handy as heck. I was stunned at how quiet Central Park could be, and was told by several people that birdwatchers can find a larger variety of birds to spot in the park than almost anywhere else. These must be very hardy birds, because Central Park is surrounded by miles of concrete. Oh my aching feet.

Those are pretty fabulous socks. I finally finished my first pair, with interesting but not catastrophic mistakes in each. Now I'll have to try some of this yarn you recommend and attempt another pair.
