A Moving Experience

Over the weekend we went over the hill to help my sister and brother in law move from one house to another. They traded in their 1880s Victorian (rental) for a relatively modern cabin in the woods (rental) about twenty miles up the road. I think they got a good deal. Here's the view from the side of their house... and yes, the noise is deafening, in a good way.

If you look closely, you can see clouds of forget-me-nots along the banks of the creek.
I finally got my tuchas in gear and made a bag for my Ashford Joy. I had some upholstery fabric in my stash, plus I'd been saving various bits and pieces for the day that I took the plunge and made it. The Emperor produced some great half-inch thick foam that I used to make padding, so the only thing I really had to buy for this was the pair of D-rings I needed to attach the strap to the back, and a spool of upholstery thread for the sewing.
The handle at the top is a piece of sage green grosgrain ribbon I had hanging around my craft room. I folded it in half, sewed up the sides, and then sewed it to the bag top. I rescued the shoulder strap from one or another bags that wore out. Sewing this was a real rodeo, so I won't be making another one again soon.

The bag's already made its debut at the Thursday spinning group meeting at our public library, to much adulation and applause. I wouldn't put it in the checked luggage at the airport, but so far the bag's doing a great job of making it easier to carry the wheel around. It's such a cheerful bag, and nobody else has one remotely like it.
I'm still working on the Pi Shawl (after another trip to the partial frog pond), the Denimy Socks, and am contemplating picking up one of my bigger sweater projects. On our way home from Over the Hill, we saw that it had recently snowed in the mountains, as in, less than an hour before! I mean, there was significant snow at the side of the road, and all over the grass. So, even though the dog days of summer are still around and ahead of us it won't be long before we get to autumn and winter again, and I'll be glad to have whatever wool sweater I put on my needles today.
