Too cold

It's been too cold to go out to use wireless connections, so I've been staying home and doing things around the house -- spinning, knitting, cooking, sewing, you name it. One of the things I've done is to dye more fiber with koolaid. Here's a skein of yarn that started as a length of white roving.

I used an equal amount of orange and purple together in a water-vinegar solution for this one, and then just added the wet yarn. The roving was slightly variegated, and spun up into this very nice, interesting tweedy yarn. Vinegar tends to take the mickey out of wool, though, so I've been giving yarn and roving a final bath in a hair conditioner solution to soften things up. Since so many of my recent skeins have been the result of purple and orange experiments, they resemble each other but are different enough that they'll coordinate in a project together.

The Ballet Scarf is finished! I knitted as far as I could stand it, put it on, was satisfied with the length, and bound it off. It's soft and pretty, and I don't think I'll give it away.

Before I sign off altogether, I'll update my sidebar to more accurately reflect what I've been doing with myself in the last several weeks, besides shivering and wishing myself in warmer climates.
