Last Sunday I had more fun than humans should be allowed to have. My friend J -- and I threw an "Unexpected Party," which is our yearly paeon to J. R. R. Tolkien. J -- goes through her old Tolkein calendars, and we pick a date that has some interesting association from either The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings. We invite some friends over, and cook food that is associated with the books, or that we imagine should be assoiated with them. April 25 is the "anniversary" of "the unexpected party" at Bag End in The Hobbit. I combed that chapter of the book and wrote down every food reference. Next, J -- and I took that list of food and split it up, then went away and cooked it for the party. We had cheese, a few cakes, seed cakes, ale, porter, coffee, tea, salad, cold chicken, pork pie, mince pies, a biscuit or two, pickles, scones, raspberry jam, apple tart... and everything was good. Go look at the book; if the food was mentioned, we had it.
No news on the job front... but they said I woudn't hear until next week.
The drive home from Sis's place wasn't bad once I got out from under the storm. This morning, we had sun in our front yard while it was snowing in our back yard, and the wind was howling -- it's still howling out there.
Last night I finished teaching my first spindle-spinning class! My goal going in was to have one person get excited about spinning and keep it going... and out of three students, two of them have already joined the local guild and are talking about getting wheels some day. The third student struggled a little, but she might keep it up... so I met my personal goal. I promised myself that I'd use my class money to buy a "nice" spindle, and have been trolling the 'Net looking at all the different kinds available. I'll post all about it when I figure out what I'm going to do.
