One of the last blogs I regularly follow, Yarnstorm, has gone silent as of yesterday. This was one of the first blogs I started reading, back in 2005, it's always been among my favorites, and it inspired me to start the one you're reading now. While I understand why people eventually abandon their blogs, and while I'm not afraid of change or progress or the forward motion of time, it still makes me a little sad.
Speaking of blogs, the Yarn Harlot has announced (via her Twitter feed, which she puts in the right sidebar of her blog) that she will be teaching and speaking at a fiber arts festival in Little Rock, Arkansas in September. I read this and thought, hey, I'll be in Arkansas in September. Then I checked the dates, and they were roughly the same. Then I realized that Little Rock is only a two hour drive from where I will be. And then it dawned on me that I could actually go and hear the keynote address for this festival. Ten minutes and fifteen dollars after reading that tweet, I had a ticket to hear Stephanie Pearl McPhee hold forth on knitting. The fifteen dollars is the registration fee for the festival -- I'm glad to chip in to make it possible for a large body of fellow fiber fans to get together, share ideas, take classes, and sell their stuff. I only wish I had time to do more than show up for the main event, but I'll be at a professional conference for the rest of the weekend. But I couldn't pass up a chance to see the Yarn Harlot.
