A Little Better
I am pleased to report that after yesterday's whine about not feeling like doing anything, I did get up and get moving. I graded another stack of exams, drank lots of (hot) tea, cooked a hot dinner from scratch, and wound that yarn into not one but two balls!
This is Opal 8-ply "Wintermond," a worsted-weight yarn that has been dyed in the same way as their sock yarns but meant for larger projects. I'm working it up on size 7 needles, sixteen stitches on each needle. I think this will fit on the Emperor's downright skinny legs.
The winding was even more of a chore than I had anticipated. I put my ball winder together and fastened it to the table, then started winding. About halfway through, the ball flew off the winder and across the room. It took quite a while to get that untangled and back in business. Next, I took the huge cake of yarn and wound it again, this time through a yarn gauge to measure its length. I divided that number in half, and wound the yarn through the gauge again, this time stopping at the halfway mark to cut it and start a new ball. Finally, I wound one of the smaller balls again because it was much too tight. Whew. But now this becomes a "mindless" project" easily completed in dim light; I just do a cuff, knit plain until I'm nearly finished with the ball, and then do a series of decreases as I would on a hat. These are meant to be socks without heels, for wearing in bed.
It's been quite cold here at night, so I've been wearing my shortie socks to bed at night. That helps so much in keeping warm. Even when I don't plan on going out, I've been wearing wool socks with my slippers, too. I've also "borrowed" back a pair of fingerless mitts from the Emperor that he stole years ago. I just wish the streaming fireplace channel on this SmartTV would put out a little heat!
All right, back to work.
