Here's a quick update on the house-hunt: that house we both liked will always be "the one that got away." Our offer for Das Brick Bunker (as Sis named it) was turned down, and it's no surprise because we offered $24,000 less than the asking price. The other home we visited was closer to our price range, but too sketchy for us. While I'm not exactly elderly, I don't have the time and energy to put into massive home renovations, and the Emperor doesn't, either. Cleaning up the yard alone would have taken weeks. The house itself was cute, but battered.
Sis did some online explorations of properties here in town and came up with a couple of suggestions for me. One of them actually had some appeal, right up until I drove onto the street and counted three Confederate flags among the neighbors.
There's another one in our price range and it's more toward our end of town. While it's not a very exciting house, it has enough bedrooms, a basement, a garage, and a new roof/water heater/garage door, and it's in a decent neighborhood. We've got an appointment to look at it this afternoon, so I'll come back and report on our findings once we've seen it in person.
Finally, while I had the tools out and all of the materials, I cut another stick to make a cone box for The Amazing A--. I thought she would get some use out of it, and it would at least be amusing to her. I'll pick up a pretty box when I sneak the Emperor out of town later this week, because I'm going to try to get us Out of Dodge for a day while it's still spring break and the weather is so pretty.
