Nabbed It!

Friday immediately after I finished my teaching for the day, I called the Emperor and told him to pack a bag because we were going after that secretary desk in the Eastern Regional City.  Although we took off a little later than I'd hoped, we did get out and into a hotel for the night, and spent a very pleasant time at a Barnes and Noble looking at books.  However -- you guessed it -- the Imperial Headache arrived the next morning, right on schedule, but this time I did not just pack us up and go back.  This time, I told the Emperor to stay in the car while I navigated IKEA and bought the the secretary desk and while I finished the other regional shopping that has been on our list for the past couple of months.  So today, we're going to do some yard cleanup before bringing in the boxes that are still in the trunk of the car.

Last week's furniture purchase was educational, although it didn't do the job it was intended to.  Once the Emperor and I assembled it, we realized that it would not fit into its intended place.  Yes, I had measured the width of the wall it would stand against.  Yes, the lamp and the key tray would fit on top of it.  It would have looked really nice, if we had been able to place it against the wall.  What I had not realized, because of the table standing in that spot now, was that there is a heating/cooling register at the baseboard.  Our registers are large and stand a couple of inches high and at least two inches away from the wall, therefore my hall table has to be up on legs.  So while I was at IKEA, I bought a tallish bedside table that matches the general color of the wood in the living room.  With a lamp and a key tray on it, it will look like a hall table.

The quite-sturdy shelf unit we built this week will do very well in the bedroom -- the Emperor has already claimed it.  I still need to get some more bookshelves, but I can do that in the coming weeks.  We'll get this house under control eventually.

Knitting is still happening.  I've got about a third of the second bed sock finished -- magic loop was just the trick to get this project moving.  I wouldn't use it on every future sock, but for this purpose it was perfect.  The Emperor will have his bed socks just about the time it gets cold enough for him to wish for them.  I'm not sure what my next project will be -- maybe some kind of crocheted cocoon jacket, or possibly some crocheted baskets to put things in for our bathrooms.  Our half bathroom (in our bedroom) is cowboy-themed, mostly because our bathroom 'Way Out West was and I didn't want to just get rid of perfectly good bathroom stuff.  So for organizing basket type things, I could just get out some of the worn-out jeans I've been saving and cut off the legs and make some and they'd fit in just fine.  But today, after I've done that yard cleanup, I'm going to get out the iron and my sewing machine and shorten the curtains I bought so I can get them hung.  There's a practical purpose to this -- our living room has a large bay window and cold will radiate through it once the season really turns.  Curtains will help.  The previous owner had installed a very nice rod and left it in place, so it really is up to me to get them up there.  If I get it done today, I'll put up a picture below.

Nope, didn't get it done... yet.
