Every single year. I forget my February 1"blogaversary" every year. I started this blog in 2006, once I had begun knitting in earnest. I look back and can see how my writing and my interests have changed over time, and how the emphasis of this blog has shifted from "strictly knitting" to "whatever is going on at the moment." I'd love to return it to handcrafts, but I haven't been doing much of that for a bit, and I don't want to ignore my blog for months at a time. So, here it is, in whatever form it's taking for now.
It began snowing here this morning and it's become steadier as the day progresses. I think we've had a half inch so far but it's hard to tell because the wind is blowing it around, making it hard to find a good accumulation. The Emperor and I are both ensconced here in the living room, draped in blankets and enjoying a rare Day Off from Stuff. It's been a hard week at Orchard Ranch; we found out Tuesday morning that the Emperor has developed macular degeneration in his other eye, necessitating another round of trips to the Bigger City South of Here for treatment, beginning on Thursday. I have high hopes of his keeping most of his sight, but it's a gamble. He's also got cateracts making it hard for him to see. It's likely that soon he will be unable to drive, to do his leatherwork, or to use all of those power tools taking up residence in the garage. He can still read, but his writing is getting bigger and more difficult to decipher. I am more determined than ever to get him to England one more time, this spring, while he can still see it.
At a couple of points this week I held my sock in progress, but still haven't made a stitch on it. That said, this morning I looked at my tea cozy and thought that it might be time to make another one. The knitting mojo isn't dead, but it's buried under an avalanche of care.
In the evenings after the Emperor has gone to bed this week, I've been watching Mad Men. I'd heard a lot about it when it was first broadcast, but since we didn't have cable television I'd been studiously ignoring it. The Emperor isn't interested in it, but one evening I was looking for amusement and decided to take a look at it. It's much better than I thought it would be! The lighting is interesting, and the story really pulls you in. Who is Don Draper, really? I'm only six episodes in, but I'm not sure he knows.
