String 'em up, Gene!

That's a line from one of my favorite Riders in the Sky skits. The "Gene" is Gene Autry.

I've been getting ready to go out of town, I've been out of town, and then have been catching up after being out of town, but in between I've been spinning and knitting up a storm! The Denimy Socks are finished, and the Climbing Vines Pullover is done and dusted (and blocked and is waiting for me to find and buy something to wear under it). I'll post pics of that later. I've started the Pasticcio Circular Vest, a pair of socks for myself as cover for the pair of socks I've started for the Emperor for Christmas. I'll post pics of those later, too.

Meanwhile, I came across a nifty little necklace thing while browsing a sale table recently. This is a copper square with a historic photo of 1929s rodeo cowgirl Prairie Rose Henderson jumping and waving under a layer of resin. She was only a buck, and I couldn't leave her behind!

Ain't she sweet? I just knew I had to make a necklace for her to hang around on, and recalled that I had just the right bunch of beads at home. A couple of years ago, I bought this necklace (on sale very cheap) at one of those "accessory" shops you find in malls, and I wore it all of one time before deciding that although I LOVE the colors, the necklace was too short for my style.

Enter Prairie Rose, and my copious bead collection, which I trolled until I found things that would compliment each other. I spent a little time this morning stringing these beads on some beading wire I had stashed...

And here's kind of how it will look when I've unstrung the old necklace and re-strung most of the beads onto other wires.

I plan to keep the seed beads each on discreet strings, and use extras (there will be extras) to make a matching pair of earrings. This necklace is meant to hang more on my chest than be right up tight around my neck, and will have something like six or seven strands when it's finished. I hope to be able to re-use the clasp and fasteners, which are a lovely shade of brushed brown and match everything.
What a hoot. Right, Prairie Rose?
