I'm not at my usual haunt or on my own laptop today so I don't have anything to show for pictures. However, I have finished spinning some more yarn and even took some before and after shots of a project I did, which I'll post later. I haven't knitted much since last week only because my bird-like attention span kicked in.
The Yarn Harlot is issuing her Knitting Olympics Challenge and even though in the past knit-alongs like this have been the kiss of death to any project I've undertaken, I've declared myself "in". The Emperor has shown interest in having a pair of mittens of his own, and I completed a pair of stranded colorwork mittens in about a week, so I'm thinking that I could do a pair for him start-to-finish in 16 days, or however long the Olympics are. Before Friday, I'll create a design for them, and cast on at whatever time on Friday we're supposed to start. This time I'll use commercial yarn rather than my handspun, only because I don't have enough of anything that will do for what I have in mind, design-wise.
Speaking of the Emperor, this week he picked up some of my spinning books and magazines and spent some time in them. I asked him if he'd make a nice handspindle for me in his snazzy workshop, and he wanted to know more about it so invaded my information stash. Somewhere I've got an article about Italian Renaissance spindles and I'd love to have one... gotta dig up the article. Anyway, now the Emperor knows all about drafting triangles and why a lazy kate should be tensioned, and he's trying to dig up some kind of tool to make for me... and I'm going to let him.
