These colors are great, aren't they? Next, I have a skein from that wonderful Corriedale/silk roving that I bought at Estes Park back in April. I spun this sample with the spindle and then plied it back on itself. It has great texture, but this picture doesn't really do the color justice. It's more of a sagey-grey with salmon nubs in it.
As for the rest of the pound or so of that roving, I'm spinning it up on the wheel. I tried both spinning straight from the roving (with pre-drafting) and hand-carding it up before spinning. Pre-hand-carding makes a smoother yarn, but it also smooths out the various colors, which is what I like about the spindle-spun sample. Spinning from a pre-drafted roving is a little harder and the yarn isn't as even, but it's much more interesting. So, right from the roving it is!
And recently, I found some more of that wonderful Louet roving. This is a colorway that I wouldn't have necessarily chosen for myself, but I couldn't make up my mind which one to purchase -- more of that rainbow stuff? Or, something new? Finally, I held a package of each behind my back and asked The Amazing A-- to say "left" or "right" and allow chance to choose for me. I'm not disappointed! The colors aren't quite true here, but the interaction between the blues and the greens is gorgeous.
Again, here's the finished yarn plied on itself. This is a nice worsted weight and is destined to be a winter headband or something like that.
See? I haven't been completely socked in by school work. Close, but not quite.
