Piecework Magazine recently featured an article on Icelandic wool, and offered a pattern for this beret. Their example was made with naturally colored Lopi, and although I actually enjoy using naturally colored yarns, something about the hat didn't thrill me. But the Lopi intrigued me -- I had at least two skeins of Lopi in the stash -- could this be a stash-buster? I looked and found a skein of bright turquoise, and a skein of butter yellow.
I thought maybe I could tie these colors together if I could find a skein of avocado Lopi, or something that would set off the yellow and blue. Our LYS didn't have any avocado, and it was initally apparent that they didn't have any colors that might go with the blue and yellow I already had. Then, a closer look at a dark green showed that it was a heathered dark green -- heathered with turquoise and yellow!
The knitting took all of a day of off-and-on work. I blocked it over a dinner plate, and am wearing it right now as I type this. It's a good, serviceable, warm winter hat!
I'm at my sister's place, and if my brother-in-law would hurry up and lure my husband out on a shopping trip, I could get out the Secret Christmas Sock and finish it. It only lacks about an inch and a half before the toe decreases on the second sock... since the Emperor of the Garage retired in May, I haven't had the secret knitting time that I formerly did. This year, I've had to hide the sock in other projects, or take it to a friend's house to work on. I even started knitting on a long-standing request from the Emperor, a cabled cardigan, to divert his attention.
Bro is putting on his shoes. I'd better go!
