Topping it off

It's the Shadow Tuque, from Interweave Knits, Fall 2011, and it's the second one I've made.  The first time I made this, I used Peruvia Quick in the "Saddle Brown."  I followed the pattern but it turned out a little bit short for my big hair, so I got another skein in "Palta" and made this one.  It's just a little too long, if you can believe that -- so I took out the top section again and took out one row before the decreases.  The hat is still not quite large enough to stay on my hair, so now I have two pretty nice hats to give away.

Still plugging away on the sock, but now the heel is turned and I'm just cruising along on the foot.  I came up with an idea of how to keep on knitting socks, since I seem to be making them so fast, but not taking a bite out of my bank account... I have kept all of my sock yarn ends, and some of them are pretty good-sized skeins!  Using careful matching skills -- or not -- I can put matching or not-matching yarns together and knit more socks.  Down in the stash, I have some solid colors, too, and can use them for cuffs, heels, and toes.  I can also dig out one skein of white, and dye it using whatever dyes or koolaid I have, thus making some custom colors for those cuffs, etc.  In the process, I can also revisit favorite yarns for a little while.  I had been trying to not knit so fast on this current pair, but now I'm kind of looking forward to seeing what the next pair might look like!

The fun never ends at Orchard Ranch.
