It's nearly the end of the last week of winter break before the next semester begins -- we're counting down the last few days -- and I'm starting to pay for not spending more time getting ready a few weeks ago. Actually, I'm not that far behind. With a little discipline I can have everything ready to go for next Tuesday without much pain.
The same goes for my knitting. I have a bunch of things on the needles but nothing's close to completion; a little bit of discipline on my part would enable me to finish something and feel some satisfaction. Part of my problem is that I've been cold for the past week, and instead of knitting in the evenings I've been wrapped up in a blanket or clinging to my heated rice bag (a cloth bag filled with raw rice that you can put in the microwave). My hands have been particularly cold. The weather's warmed up a little bit, so maybe tonight I can get my hands out from under the blanket and work through another section of the Pretty Cashmere Thing, or a few rows of the Emperor's sock.
I've been trying to do something with that silk hankie I brought home from the wool fest. One side of it was a little fuzzed up, and I thought it might be economical to start peeling from that side to get rid of the loose fibers. My original plan was to try to knit something right from the hankie, without spinning the silk first, but I was really unsatisfied with the result. Now I've got it on the handspindle and I'm churning out an uneven, futzy, but pretty yarn... and still kind of unsatisfied with the result. I still haven't gotten to the organized section of the hankie. If they weren't so darned expensive, I'd just buy a bunch of them and blow through them until I got the hang of making a good yarn from them, but right now that's not an option I can pursue.
I guess you could say that I'm at sixes and sevens with my needlework.
