Craft Room Organization Update: Progress Achieved!
After digging around online, I found a site where I could get the comic book boards for a few dollars (plus modest shipping) so ordered them and they arrived in just a few days. Meanwhile, I replaced most of the fabric I'd dragged out back into the totes and shoved it out of the way. I began putting my craft books into the bottom shelves of my new bookshelves. Suddenly posessed with a creative streak, I took my empty cardboard boxes that I'd been saving for organizing purposes, covered them with shelf paper, and filled them with spinning fiber and put them on the top shelf of my storage "unit." I can't put anything heavy up there, so this is a perfect place to put this light, bulky stuff.I got main the room cleared enough that I could get my crafts cabinet open, then took everything out so I could move it about eight inches to the right. Next, I moved one more bookshelf into place beside the cabinet to hold the magazines I took out of the cabinet. The main part of the cabinet will now hold my sewing machine and my serger. One of the drawers almost fell apart so the Emperor has it in his garage and has fixed it; the glue is drying as we speak. He suggests that I only put light stuff in them from now on; I'll have to find a new place for my scrapbook supplies.
Every time I decide to do some work in the craft room, I grab my iPad and put on some music, and then pick one spot to work on. When I start feeling overwhelmed, I take the music and run away until I can face it again. This is the same strategy I used when I had to organize the craft basement in our last home, and it worked. But today, when I'm finished with this update and have had breakfast and gone grocery shopping, I'll go back into the craft room, start with one corner or shelf, and see if I can accomplish one more thing before supper.
