Two More Squared
I think... I think perhaps these might be the last two squares I will need to send off for the afgan project we're doing through Craftlit. I finished making the Lacey Cross square (or Crossy Lace?) while we were out on our jaunt to Twain Country. As a matter of fact, it was the only project that I took with me; we traveled very lightly and the Emperor and I could each put all of our possessions in one bag and sling it over our shoulder. At any rate, the squares are winging their way to the woman who's going to crochet the whole thing together for us, and Heather will likely deliver the finished blanket to the recipient in October.
So now it's back to trying to get the Jupiter Cardigan finished in time to wear when the weather cools off. It's been hot here for the last couple of days, and it rained very nicely last night, so I know that when I finally do emerge from the house (in a short while, as a matter of fact) it will be humid. I don't mind heat, if it's a "dry heat" as it was in Arizona and Wyoming and as it usually is here in Western Kansas. I just can't take the humidity with heat. It makes me wilt. So the idea of weather cool enough to wear a wool cardigan is a great thought indeed.
And then there's the Christmas Sock in progress already. I need to keep that one in the hopper so I don't forget about it.
Our local grocery store is carrying a "new" brand of tamale in its freezer section. I bought a bag of them about two weeks ago, just to try them out, and the Emperor proclaimed them to be good enough to buy again. They're a little on the pricey side, but their most lasting effect is the bag that they came in -- a printed muslin bag, the perfect size for a sock-in-progress. I tossed the bag in the wash and when it came out, immediately commandeered it for the sock. My sock needles poke through the fabric just a little, but I can either line this tamale bag or put the needles into one of those handy sock needle tubes.
Yes, I know -- isn't the point of commandeering a tamale bag to save the work of making another project bag? Well, yes and no. It's a nice-looking bag, but still needs a few stitiches, mainly around the drawstring opening. And it would take no time at all, and use only scraps, to stitch up a lining. I'll think about it and report back when I've figured out what I'll do with it.
Huh. I've got a few pieces of very old fabric printed with red chiles.
