We are still in the middle of the move. At one point, the Emperor told me that he'd moved pretty much everything that he could into the (medium sized moving) truck and could do the rest with our Honda. I went outside and looked, and then got out the broom and started brushing off cobwebs, live spiders, and other scary sticky stuff. I asked him "why do you prefer to wrestle things in and out of the Honda when you can just walk them up and down this ramp?" While he contemplated his answer, I began asking about individual items in the garage. "Can we move that now? How about that?" and before long we were both loading up the truck. Once we got to a certain level of tired, we stopped, took a long cold drink and a short sit-down, then drove the truck over to the new house and unloaded. I did the lion's share of the lifting and moving, but it got done. He also had to quit ignoring my plea to not bring spiders over to the new place -- it took finding three brown recluse spiders to get it through his head that I meant business.
A few days later a friend came by with a flatbed trailer and we got the books, some tables, and some chairs moved. The garage is truly done now (except for the things that the mover will move) so I told the Emperor that he could give me a hand in the house. I still have the dishes, my craft room, and all of our clothes to move, plus a zillion little detail things that won't fit in boxes. I've got some energetic music going on the iTunes, and in a minute will start taking things out of the kitchen. The idea is to use these boxes to move stuff from here straight into the cupboards in the new house, then bring back the empties and use them to store the china until the china cabinet is moved.
This weekend we're taking a rented SUV to Denver. I want to meet a dear old friend for supper on Saturday (she's flying out from Connecticut and taking a niece and nephew on a driving tour of the Southwest) and then we'll go to IKEA and pick up about a thousand dollars' worth of bookshelves for our new living room and head for home. I'm insisting on getting the shelves now, because I know if I wait until we're "settled" the books will just sit around in boxes for months. I want to get that house as put together as I can this summer, so I can think about something else when school starts -- like school.
All right! Off the duff and into the fray!
