The Emperor and I plan to leave tomorrow morning for San Diego, so that meant that practically the whole week was spent in doing necessary "infrastructure" stuff. Front and back lawns are mowed, and I pulled a huge trash can full of weeds. I cleaned up a sketchy corner of our yard (and hoo boy am I glad I did -- it's fraught with roots sticking up to ruin a lawn mower). I weed-whacked the strip of soil along our back fence, and whacked a few strategic locations in the front yard as well. It's all done, and in plenty of time to beat the terrific storm going on outside right now. We needed the rain and now there it is. The house will look suitably "neat" while we're away, and we won't get a ticket for weeds out of control. At the office, I'm about halfway done with packing my books so that the physical plant guys can paint and put in new carpet. I have until the end of June, but I don't want to wait until the last second and then have to rush or even spend all night packing. It's been a busy week.
Today I did All The Work, literally. I made the coffee, cooked breakfast, did the dishes, drove the Emperor to the bank, dropped a thing off for a group we're part of, pulled weeds, mowed, and whacked. After a shower, I helped the Emperor make our bed (he washed the bedding), I made supper and then went out and did some last minute grocery shopping and filled the car with gas. Next, I did the dishes. It's pretty much everything I can do to not be overwhelmed by everything that needs to be done and every now and then I am tempted to succumb to self-pity, but then I remember something else that needs to be done and I get on with it.
Packing a suitcase is still on the list for tonight, as is washing a last load of clothes, my yardwork clothes. Before we take off, I need to print off the tickets for an exhibition opening we plan to attend in San Diego, so we'll have to go to the office. I need to remember to bring a few things for Dad, and I bought some local wine for my not-crazy-cousin D--. I think we'll also need to stop by the post office and see if the last house bill came so I can pay it before we leave.
In addition to all of this, we plan to see The Fabulous Miz J-- and maybe do a little antique hunting one day. I'd like to try to get up to Los Angeles and see the King Tut exhibition. I missed a similar exhibit when it came through in the 1970s and I don't think politics are going to allow me to go see this stuff in Egypt, so I'm going to see if we can get tickets (you buy them online).
Usually traveling takes the mickey out of me, but after the past two weeks, this will be a welcome rest.
