This and that

describes what happened this weekend in the world of Fiber Fun. Here's the half spool of possum roving that appeared on the bobbin during waiting moments... waiting for websites to load, waiting for the pie to bake, waiting for this and that. I planted my spinning wheel in our library next to the desk, and the miscellaneous minutes of waiting turned into spinning opportunities and have given my ambition a little push. I've produced more handspun yarn in two weeks than I've done in nearly a year. Proximity is the key, I think.

Although I've swatched for the Emperor's New Vest (and purchased the required needles), I'm sticking to the Ombre Hombre Socks. If I turn out a few more rows tonight, I can start the toe decreases tomorrow and be finished with them. Then I can work on the Crayon Socks, the first two inches of which have been languishing on the needles lo these three months now.

Really, try that Trekking XXL ombre yarn. It's fun to watch the colors change.

And finally, I found the perfect buttons for the Sienna Cardigan, purchased them, sewed them on, and have moved the project to the sidebar. It's more of a miracle of momentum than it sounds like. I can be the Queen Procrastinator when allowed the opportunity.
I also worked on taking focused photographs, and found the Super Macro function on the camera. Now, if I could do this in the daylight and have true colors...

That aforementioned pie, by the way, is a pumpkin pie that I made from scratch pulp. You roast the pumpkin in the oven, then scrape the flesh out of the shell and mash it. I did this over Thanksgiving weekend, and froze two pies' worth of gorgeous orange mush. I really like the flavor -- it has much more dimension and texture than the stuff out of a can. I'd do it again as the roasting and mushing wasn't much more trouble than opening a can.

"Mush" is pronounced "moo-ush," as in "push." Just so you know.

"moo-ush" does sound much more onamatopoetic than "muhsh" as in "lush." I'm going to have to change the way I say it.
