From a seed

This summer I tried something new... I started some seeds in little peat pots on my kitchen windowsill, and then planted them outside to grow. For the first time ever, I have flowers that I grew from scratch:

Chinese forget-me-nots. Oh, they're such a beautiful, intense blue. I love these.

My other summer seed experiment was to start and then transplant some lemon cucumbers. I lost the first bunch in a mid-June frost and snowfall, but the second batch I started survived very well, made it through the transplant into a tub, went wild under the rain, and last week started producing the first edible "fruits" of my labor. Look at these. If you hold them in light, they're almost translucent.

My tomatoes are producing now, too, gorgeous yellow and red fruits. We've been eating them one at a time almost right after I pick them, just sliced and put on a plate. Just yum.

Over the weekend the Emperor and I got inspired, hurriedly packed up the car, and just started driving. In the course of the trip, we cruised through Grand Teton National Park, and while I did get some nice shots of those very dramatic mountains, I also captured this little flower.

Aside from all of this planting and traveling, I've been knitting (I'm only one sleeve short of a whole sweater with the Climbing Vines Pullover), spinning, sewing, cooking, and just generally trying to be productive. I just haven't been close to a good wireless connection for a while, so haven't been able to post.

lemon cucumbers! I never knew there was such a thing. Now I'll have to look for them in fancy grocery stores.
