It does suck, completely and absolutely.
That all of this is having to happen over the holidays only adds to the misery.
The only mitigating factor is that the weather is glorious. I'm hoping that tomorrow we can go over to the Maritime Museum and see "three ships come sailing in on Christmas Day in the morning." That would go a little way toward making up for how thoroughly this whole deal has sucked.
We've got a ham steak, potatoes, and peas in the fridge for Christmas supper, and a chocolate almond tart for dessert. I bought some small goodies for an afternoon snack, and a box of chocolate covered marshmallows as a treat for the Emperor.
There are people in this hotel who are staying here on vouchers from charities because they are homeless. Lest anyone think I'm complaining, I know how fortunate I am to be here on my own dime and knowing where my next meal is coming from.
The Emperor has pretty cheerfully gone along for the ride with me, helping when I need it and staying out of my way when I'm frustrated and on the fight. My friend the Fabulous Miz J -- will be coming down the day after Christmas, which is also her birthday. She's bringing the glasses, I have the corkscrew, and together we'll deal with what must be dealt with and then wash it all down with whatever wine is at hand. This morning she wrote, "Forecast: chilly with a chance of baked goods." There's never a dull moment when J -- is around!
