Everything over here is just yucky.
Yesterday afternoon I noticed that I had a little sore spot in my throat, and it blossomed into a full-on cold overnight. Meanwhile, the Emperor woke up with one of those headaches, and is at this very minute hurling for the umpteenth time. I'm trying to force myself into putting on some clothes so I can go out and get some grocery shopping done, to little avail. I've been promising myself a nice pot of tea if I do my chores, but so far that hasn't moved me.
That said, I made it through the week in one piece. Many of my students and a few of my colleagues returned from their Thanksgiving break sick, and I made an effort to not catch any of it because I have too much to do between now and December 18, when the final grades for the semester need to be turned in. I also wanted to make it to a meeting of the Kansas City region of the Jane Austen Society of North America, which I did, yesterday. The Emperor and I took off very early in the morning so I could arrive in time for the 12:30 start. When the meeting ended, I helped clean up and then we did a little Big City shopping before heading for home. We went there and back in one long day! If I hadn't been starting this danged cold, I probably could have done it without being tired at all; I was only a little tired this time.
I'm ignoring a pile of papers that need to be graded.
On top of all of this, we had a power outage this morning, lasting about an hour and a half. Because I felt so danged yucky, I spent it sitting in my chair, very still, covered with a blanket and snoozing a little. Once power was restored, it took me a little while to figure out that I'd have to re-boot the internet router to fully restore everything. Obviously, everything's back to normal now. Except for this danged cold. Yuck.
I'm going to go put that tea on now.
