Psycho Stripes Sock 2 is finished, look for photos later when I've washed and blocked them. Turns out, there is a wee difference in the striping between the two pairs and the very ends of the toes don't match each other precisely. However, I don't wear open-toed shoes very often so it won't be an issue, at least not with me.
Of course I cast on a few stitches of the next sock, which will be made from the second ball of Sockotta I purchased on the Tucson yarn crawl in April. So far, this yarn isn't a self-striper but instead shows one-to-two-inch stretches of yarn in a rainbow of colors, and not all in the same order. It's very pretty! and I don't think it will pool like other spot-dyed yarns but will create a multicolored confusion, which pleases me. I'm tempted to plunge into trying a new sock pattern and have been casting about for one that looks challenging but not brain-busting. K-- is doing Jaywalkers right now and while they're beautiful and an interesting knit, she's having a whale of a time getting the size thing down so I'll pass for the moment. I've been tempted by Tuulia's Green Socks for a long time, but I think the Rainbow Sockotta is a little too strongly colored. So the hunt continues.
On Saturday I liberated (legally, of course) a ball of Trekking XXL from the LYS in color number 105, "Mauve." That's what the company calls the color, although it's a self-striping skein in soft browns, pinks, and lots of other colors. It virtually screams "Autumn is at hand!! Knit me!!" I'm not one to ignore a screaming skein of yarn.
At my knitting rate of a pair of socks every two months, I think I'm set for sock yarn well into next year. This fact will not stop me from checking out yarn stores in other cities when I travel, and it certainly won't stop me from picking up the odd ball that strikes my fancy. I'll never have a monumental stash like Wendy showed on June 28 (scroll down a little past the beautiful fair isle knitting and be ready for your eyes to drop out of your head) mainly because I don't want one. The guilt of ownership would wear me down and knitting would lose its charm for me. I also picked up the latest copy of Vogue Knitting, mainly for the articles on socks but also because I found some of the constructions inspiring.
Pellew's Pelisse has acquired yet more rows, and I anticipate starting the armhole decreases soon. Can it be true that I only have three more pieces to complete after this one? Do you mean to tell me that I only have a couple of months to decide what kind of edging to put on it? Such pressure!
Such silliness.
