This is the southern end of Pompey's Pillar, Montana, taken looking from east to west. Clark (of Lewis and Clark fame) carved his name and the date on the other side of this landmark. I noted the anniversary of the occasion with a blog entry on July 29, but I don't know how to make a permalink so go on an archives cruise if you're curious.
The sky was a relentless burning turquoise that day, and there was little wind so it was pretty clear and rather a beautiful day, if you didn't mind being cooked.
Happy December Fools' Day!
