Sock on the needles

It had to happen sooner or later. The bamboo needles called out to the Sockotta (color 12) in my stash, and poof! There was a sock on the needles again! I cast on for it on Sunday night -- it's Wednesday morning and I already have four and a half inches done.

The way the colors were scattered on the yarn, I wasn't sure how it would turn out. The ribbing didn't indicate that there was any real pattern...
but the stockinette part surely did!

It's not really pooling, and not really striping.

but I really like what it's doing, expecially in the above bit.

It's going really fast, which is what I need right now. I have two other projects going that are both long slogs, so it's nice to pick up something that zips right along. Plus, socks are good travel knitting.

Is it just me, or do wooden needles seem to make socks faster?

I was supposed to be out of town all week, but I cancelled one trip and re-scheduled the other so I'll only be gone tomorrow and part of Friday. As per usual, work has accelerated at the office and the Emperor is home sick, so it's going to be a wrench to be gone even for such a short time.
