Is this normalcy?

I'm back from vacation but busy as heck. There is knitting going on, but with nothing exciting to show; the first sleeve of Pellew's Pelisse is finally in progress, the Trekking Sock is still in the k2p2 ribbing stage (but only for another half inch) and the Wooly Hat was frogged to make room for a better yarn. Because of my company, I didn't get to the gym even once last week so purchase of my reward yarn has been postponed until I can feel another glow of virtuosity.

Oh, I did cast on for a miniature tam o'shanter that is required by a cat for whom my friend E-- is serving as staff. Butch's wee head is just begging for it. I'm using Elizabeth Zimmermann's recipe from her Knitting Without Tears, just much reduced in size. When it's done it will be one for the books, so I promise to feature a photo. I'm using leftover sock yarn. Butch would like a pair of mittens (with thumbs, even) but for now that's beyond my skill. Maybe next year.

I picked up the most recent issue of Interweave Crochet last week. Most of the projects are too far on the funky side for me, but I'm really attracted to the Boho Blocks Cardigan and the Cinnibar Coat. I also like the Woodstock Duster but I'd want to modify that hangy webby back part into something more interesting. The hippy in me loves those bell sleeves and wild colors, but the worker-bee in me that wears the suit, brings home the paycheck, and buys the yarn in the first place would like me to spend my time on something more practical. The internal war never ceases, but the Lord of the Rings Sweater went a long way toward establishing detente. You can have it both ways, if you're clever.

More later, when I can get a word in edgewise.
