a few things

There it is, the first Ombre Hombre Sock. That's not a great picture, but it is the last of a long line of worse attempts at getting that sock on the blog. The colors aren't right but you can get an idea of them, kind of.

The Emperor and I plan to get a "nice" digital camera right around Christmas. Maybe then I can take a decent picture, although I'm under no illusions about the picture quality/photographer skill ratio.

Sleeve One of Pellew's Pelisse is mere rows from being finished. I just had to fetch another skein of yarn from the downstairs workshop to get it going. Yes, one skein is just a few yards shy of a full sleeve. I did, however, find a skein of yellow yarn (Brown Sheep Co. Lamb's Pride Super Wash, worsted, color number SW193, "Wild Honey") to do the edging. I like the color well enough to make a whole sweater out of it, so I think I'll be able to stand it for a couple of rows of single crochet. Right now, I'm having a love affair with bright yellow.

Throughout my life, my favorite colors have changed. I mean, I've liked different colors more than others at different times. My first favorite color was light blue, probably because my mother preferred it. About the time I was eight, I developed a fondness for chartreuse, I think because it was cool to be able to spell it correctly AND know what it meant. I went through a violet period in high school, and an "earth tone" era in college. Then, I developed a use-based color scheme for my life: I preferred cobalt blue for kitchen items, green offset by pink for general use around the house, red for accessories like wallets and mittens, and both earth tones and neutrals for my greater wardrobe.

Then, my hair began to turn grey (prematurely, let me point out!) and I turned to jewel tones for my clothes and began to admire yellow anywhere I could find it. Yellow first noticeably turned my head when I saw a taxicab yellow Volkswagen New Beetle in 2000 and I went from contentedness to coveteousness in about thirty seconds. I never bought the car, but I did get a lunchbox and a "nice" pen in the right yellow, because after all, it was the color I was after, not the car. I still pick out yellow things when I can. It's so cheerful.

Now I can't get enough of yellow, especially in flowers. And I'll have plenty of time to love it while doing the finishing work on Pellew's Pelisse.

But first, I need to go and finish that sleeve and get the next one on the needles.

Added later: Sleeve done, sleeve cast on. Have I hit the home stretch yet?

My tastes in colors has also changed--I liked bright colors when I was a teenager and for the longest times I loved very dark colors--black and deep purple and forest green. I rather hated earth tones during that period but decided at some point that was stupid--OK, so brown and orange weren't my favorite colors, but why hate them? So I started making myself include them, in small ways, in my life. Now I have learned to enjoy them and find them quite beautiful.
